Our Services.

Evidence-based services are provided in a relaxed, child/family-friendly, non-medical environment, where parents and caregivers are encouraged to observe techniques.  After school, evening, and weekend appointment times are available. With the appropriate treatment plan, most children will significantly improve in their abilities to communicate, pay attention, listen, follow directions and work independently.  Therapy outcomes are also evident in academic improvements in reading, math, spelling, writing, reading comprehension, oral reading fluency, and language skills. Parents and children often report greater self-confidence with communication in school, at home, and in social situations, after therapy. Read more under the Testimonials tab.

Intake Interview
A one-hour session with parent(s) or caregiver(s) to obtain complete birth, medical, developmental, and educational history information. Children may participate in this session at the parent's discretion. We will discuss your child's strengths and struggles. This session is typically scheduled by Zoom, although in-person appointments are available.

Comprehensive Evaluation
A comprehensive test battery is administered to the child during this two-hour scheduled session. Testing may be completed in less than two hours, but test times will vary for each child. Short breaks are given in between each subtest, as needed. We use a combination of behavioral and objective test measures to provide the most details about the peripheral and central auditory systems. Preliminary findings may be discussed at the end of the session. A detailed written report is available within 4 weeks (often sooner) from the date of the evaluation. All tests are analyzed and interpreted using both quantitative and qualitative measures. We transcribe the child's responses so we can assess the types and patterns of errors. A correct response only gives us half of the information about how the brain processes speech. We encourage parents to observe evaluations. The Staggered Spondaic Word (SSW) test is routinely included in the test battery for all children aged 5 years and older. The SSW test alone, has more than 30 different indicators for auditory processing difficulties; it is an excellent tool for identifying even young children and children who may have a mild hearing loss. We have assessment tools with normative data for children as young as 3 years; 6 months and, "at risk" profile screening tools, for children even younger. Your child can be assessed at any age. If you have concerns, early identification and early treatment are key components to successful outcomes.

Therapy
Treatment plans are highly customized based on information obtained from the Intake Interview and the Diagnostic Evaluation. We employ a variety of therapeutic programs. Most of our clients will benefit from individual therapy sessions. Individual therapy is typically scheduled in 50-60 minute sessions, once a week. Sessions may be scheduled every other week, if necessary, preferably after the first 4-6 sessions have been completed. Therapy is scheduled in "rounds." Round 1 of therapy is about 15 sessions. Additional therapy "rounds," if recommended, are configured in a variety of ways. Therapy sessions are planned and adapted to best fit the needs, preferences, and learning styles of the child.  Parents/caregivers are encouraged to observe the therapy sessions. The best therapy outcomes are expected when training is practiced, provided in a 1:1 setting, sufficiently intense, targeted to the deficit areas, completed in a prescriptive approach, and is reinforced with immediate feedback. Group sessions may be available. Therapy programs administered by parents or caregivers, with direct support and supervision from one of our audiologists, are alternative options to conventional therapy sessions, for some families, although not ideal. Teletherapy services are also available and highly engaging and beneficial.
